Calling all writers, authors, and publishing enthusiasts! The Upper Peninsula Publishers & Authors Association (UPPAA) invites you to its 26th Annual Conference, taking place on Saturday, May 18th, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Peter White Public Library in Downtown Marquette, Michigan. This year’s theme, “Elevate Your Literary Journey,” promises a day filled with inspiration, learning, and networking opportunities for writers of all levels and genres.

Pre-Conference Event: Networking and Social Mixer

Kick off your conference experience with a casual and friendly Networking and Social Mixer on Friday, May 17th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at “The Crib” Coffee House and Roastery in Marquette. Enjoy light appetizers (nominal fee) and a cash bar while connecting with fellow writers, authors, and publishing professionals. It’s the perfect icebreaker to get the creative juices flowing and set the stage for a fantastic conference.

Conference Activities and Highlights

The UPPAA Annual Conference is packed with a diverse range of activities and highlights designed to inform, inspire, and engage participants.

Keynote Speaker: Brian Bosley (Gladstone, Michigan)

Brian Bosley, a renowned business coach, speaker, trainer, author, and outdoor enthusiast from Gladstone, Michigan, will deliver the keynote address titled “Bamboo Progress! – A Philosophy for Excellence and Success.” Drawing from his wealth of experience, Brian will share insights on how writers can cultivate a mindset of continuous improvement, overcome challenges, and achieve their literary goals.

Breakout Sessions: Marketing and Writing Tracks

Delve into specialized breakout sessions tailored to your interests and needs. The Marketing Track features sessions on self-publishing, effective eBook and audiobook marketing, and in-person book sales strategies. The Writing Track offers guidance on preparing children’s books for traditional publishing, weaving romance around suspense, and discovering your unique writer’s voice.

Young Writers Storytelling Workshop

Aspiring young writers from U.P. (grades 6-12) are invited to participate in a special Storytelling Workshop held concurrently with the conference. This workshop provides an opportunity for young writers to hone their craft, learn from established authors, and share their stories. Admission is $15 for non-members or free for UPPAA Family Members.

Business Meeting and Awards Presentation

The conference includes a business meeting where UPPAA members can discuss association matters and celebrate the achievements of their fellow writers. The 7th Annual Dandelion Cottage Awards for Student Short Story Contest will be presented, recognizing the talents of young U.P. writers. Additionally, the 8th Volume of U.P. Reader, UPPAA’s annual literary anthology, will be unveiled.

Networking Opportunities

Throughout the conference, there will be ample opportunities for networking with fellow writers, authors, and publishing professionals. Informal networking sessions during the lunch break and an exhibition area showcasing works by U.P. authors provide a chance to connect, share ideas, and learn from each other’s experiences.

UPPAA Members: Free Admission
